[Case Study] A 70-Year-Old Woman with Neck and Arm Numbness – Significant Improvement After Upper Cervical Chiropractic and Myofascial Treatment

A 70-year-old female patient visited our clinic with complaints of persistent numbness extending from the left side of her neck down to her arm. She had previously received various treatments at multiple clinics, but her symptoms showed little to no improvement and continued to interfere with her daily activities.

Upon her first visit, a comprehensive physical examination and cervical spine X-ray were conducted. The findings suggested cervical disc degeneration with possible nerve compression, along with tightness and tenderness in the left scalene muscles. Based on these results, we suspected a combination of cervical disc pathology and thoracic outlet (scalene muscle) syndrome.

A personalized treatment approach was initiated, including the following:

  • Precise upper cervical chiropractic care, focused on alignment and neurological balance at the C1 and C2 levels

  • Myofascial release and trigger point therapy targeting the left scalene muscles

  • Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) therapy to relieve deep muscular tension and reduce nerve irritation

After only two treatment sessions, the patient reported more than 50% reduction in her symptoms, with noticeable relief in her daily life and functional mobility. Continued care and lifestyle guidance will be provided to support her recovery and long-term well-being.
